Synthesis of Nitrofurantoin-N-Peracetyl Glucoside Under Phase Transfer Catalysed Conditions

Nitrofurantoin-N-(2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyljS-D-g1ucoside) was synthesized under phase transfer catalysed conditions, it was then characterized by NMR (proton) and Mass spectrometry (EI) for the Phase-II metabolic study of Nitrofurantoin.read more

Spectrophotometric Determination of Sulphide in Non-polar Media by the Mercury(lI) thiocyanate Reaction

A simple, rapid and accurate method for the spectrophotomteric determination of sulphide in non-polar media is described. The method is based upon the reaction of mercury(II) thiocyanate with sulphide to release thiocyanate which .reacts with iron (III) to form ironthiocyanate. The reaction is performed in non-aqueous medium. Cyclohexane and iso- octane are used as organic solvents separately. The effects of a number of parameters like time, temperature, concentration of reagents and diverse ions are investigated. The method has significant potential of determining sulphur in sulphur containing organic compounds.read more

Rapid Separation of Platinum Group Elements with Hydrous Zirconium Oxide as an Ion-Exchange Material

This paper describes the adsorption behaviour (Kd) of platinum group elements on hydrous Zirconium Oxide in ClhCOONa/CH3COOH buffer, of pH 2-10 in batch technique. Then Pt2+, Ni2+ and Pd2+ were separated from one another with the help of buffers of pH 75, 6.0 and 2.0 respectively from HZO column.read more

A Thermodynamic Study of the Reaction between Two Hypoiodite Ions in Ethanol¬water Mixed Solvents

The rate of reaction between two hypiodite ions in aqueous ethanol mixtures at 275 K is retarded by increasing the ethanol content of the medium. The closest distance of approach of reacting ions indicate that the shape of the activated complex is more similar to a double sphere model. Electrostatic and non- electrostatic (kJ/mole) contributions to the changes in free energy of activation are 12.4 and 80.45 in 0.156 mole fraction of ethanol and 7.54 and 82.66 in water. A change in entropy from - 34.9 JIK/mole in water to -57.40 JIK/mole in 0.156 mole fraction of ethanol indicate that a highly ordered activated complex is formed at a higher concentration of ethanol in the mixed solvents. The logarithm of the rate constant is found to be a linear function of 11El/2 in the proposed equation.read more

Separation of Copper (II), Nickel(lII), Palladium (II) and Vanadium (IV) Oxide Com¬plexes of Bis(isovalerylacetone)ethylenediimine Using Solvent Extraction and Gas Chromatography

The copper(II), nickel(lI) palladium (II) and vanadium (IV) oxide complexes of bis(isovaletylacetone)ethylenediimine (HzIYzAen) are prepared and eluted on OV1D1 and OV 17, 3% on Chromosort> SO-loo GC columns and separation between copper, nickel, palladium and vanadium is achieved. The reagent has been examined for the extraction of the metal ions in cyclohexane and the efficacy of the reagent for analytical utility is investigated with regards to gas chromatographic behaviour. Detection limits and calibration range of metal ions are reported.read more

Reactions with 6-Cinnamoyl':2,7-Dimethyl-3-Phenylpyrazolo- [1,5-c] 1,2,4-Triazine Derivatives

The new cinnamoyl derivatives (Za,b) were achieved~ reaction of the pyrazolo[l,5-c] 1,2,4-triazine derivative [1] with the appropriate aldehyde. The cinnamoyl moiety of (Za,b) reacted with urea and thiourea to give the pyrimidine derivatives (4a-<1). On the other hand, when the reaction of (Za) with urea was conducted at milder reaction conditions the acyclic compound [3] was isolated. The pyrimidine derivative (5) was obtained upon reaction of (2a) with semi carbazide. Compounds (Za,b) reacted also with cyanoacetamide to yield the pyridine derivatives (6a) and (6b) respectively. The acyclic phenylhydrazine derivatives (7a,b) were isolated through the reaction of (Za,b) with phenylhydrazine. The reaction of (Za,b) with hydrazine hydrate leads to the formation of the pyrazolines (Sa,b).read more

Synthesis ofUnsyrnmetrical Dis-Azo Dyes from 4,4'-Diamino¬Diphenylamine-2-sulphonic Acid

Some unsymmetrical dis-azo dyes have been synthesised from 4,4'-diaminodiphenylamine-2-sulphonic acid in an attempt to find a suitable substitute for benzidine which is now an established carcinogen. The shade, strength and absorption characteristics in the visible region have been compared with the corresponding dyes derived from benzidine.read more
